“Persepolis” is an arresting film based on Marjane Satrapi’s autobiographical graphic unusual of the same name about her childhood in Tehran during the last Iranian revolution and coming of age after emigrating to Vienna. It is an extraordinarily ordinary myth about an average woman coming to terms with herself and with the world around her. Did I say “average woman”? My abominable. I meant dynamic, charming, radiant, and fiercely individualistic. Ms. Satrapi’s memoir is among the finest works ever exciting and bestows upon the viewer the endless virtues of knowledge, a broadened mind, and a factual perspective on humanity. “Persepolis” will demolish your heart, obtain you smile and laugh out loud, cheer, possibly instruct, and restore your faith in humanity. The fact that this was passed over for an Oscar in favor of yet another mediocre Pixar concern (about a rat that controls a chef by pulling his hair, no less) is the ultimate proof distinct that that award (or any other, really) has no merit whatsoever.

Young Marji walks down the street to the status where shady characters reside. As she passes each bootlegger, they announce the names of the forbidden fruit they gain. “Lipstick” whispers one, “Jichael Mackson” mispronounces another. She continues on until she hears what she wants: “Iron Maiden”. She hasty negotiates a ticket and makes off with her prize unprejudiced as a group of overbearing religious figures tower over her. They have taken enlighten with her shoes: dumb sneakers. Marjie insists they are for basketball, but another spots her Michael Jackson patch, a symbol of American greed. Then the coup-de-gras; she has “punk is not tiring,” scrawled across the befriend of her outfit. Thinking hastily, Marjie bursts into tears, sobbing lies about her parents having died in the war with the Iraqis and a cruel guardian who will burn her with an iron if they turn her in. Safely abet at home, having tricked the local oppressive religious posse, the young girl grabs a tennis racket as a guitar and bangs her head to the sweet, hard-earned reward of heavy metal. The scene then segues -music smooth rocking- to the frontlines of the war where the unique Iranian Islamic rulers are sending young men unarmed to hurry the Iraqi army, acting as human shields/martyrs. Their parents are rewarded by the government for their sons’ sacrifices with shrimp plastic keys which are promised to begin the door to Heaven for their monotonous children. Such are the complications of everyday life in Iran at this time. The duality of these scenes speaks a lot for the power and message of this film. But while there is highly enlightening political commentary and historical information to be found here, the focus is on the everyday life and struggles of our protagonist with the horrors of her surrounding often being downplayed.

The animation is minimalist art of the highest stylistic brilliance. The endearing nature of Marjie and her family is only highlighted by the ultra-simplistic sad and white pencil-and-paper artwork. All of the CG in the world could not improve on this film in any way; the focus is on yarn, characters, and stylistic integrity, as it should be. The film’s philosophies speed deep and expansive, ranging from harsh commentaries on authority to harsh commentary on purposeless counterculture. Wisdom comes from Marjie’s grandmother, from her imaginary chats with God, and her memories of her communist uncle. These are life lessons about integrity, prudence, and acceptance that one should always carry with them and effect many, many quotable quotes.

Do not believe for a second that this film is all about heaviness of spirit and preachiness. No, no, no, no; nothing could be further from the truth. Ms. Satrapi is a knowing social satyrist who fills “Persepolis” with pointed jokes, lighthearted moments, and heartwarming charm while pointing out that at heart, we are all the same. There is a time in Marjie’s life where she becomes a unimaginative, jaded cynic unable to do anything but recognize TV and let life pass her by. Then one day, she wakes up furious again. The result is a musical montage that will likely perform you laugh hysterically or jump out of your seat to pronounce along. Possiby both. This is honest that kind of film. Throw in some interesting cherish for Godzilla, Bruce Lee, and Terminator 2 and I am beyond sold.

The DVD has a few behind-the-scenes special features that demonstrate us the woman herself at work. Having already fallen in worship with her consuming doppelganger, seeing the vivacious Marjane Satrapi made flesh is a exact treat. We come by a belief of the old-school animation processes and are able to explore Ms. Satropi act out different characters for the animators to seek. This is nearly as mighty fun as the movie itself. Fabulous feature.

This is a near-perfect film that I would recommend to anybody who isn’t going to speed away from a mostly gloomy and white inspiring film with subtitles. And if you are: well, be pleased your life of closed-minded cinematic ignorance. “Persepolis” is a revelation whose duty is to entertain us while reminding us unbiased how kindly we have it and simultaneously educating us about a culture and history few in the West have made any attempt to understand. Ms. Satropi’s insisted that this anecdote be spellbinding and not filmed for this reason: challenging characters are more universally identifiable. Location a film in Iran and own it with Iranians and you have an ethic film that many will subconsciously refuse to identify with. But with animation, all things are possible; even bridging a gaping cultural divide. But at it’s heart, this is a film about the enthusiam of youth, the hardships of adulthood, and the triumph of personal integrity. Do not miss this.

Every once in a while a sizable revelation comes in cinema… and we have one here!

Based on the graphic novels The Complete Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi, this 90 puny film is a satisfactory translation of the current source material. The heavily stylized dusky and white cartoon is very grand yet remains simple in it’s universal emotional core. The charming minute girl we are introduced slowly grows up to be a defiant woman in a dwelling that is not for her. As we go along with the skedaddle characters near and go, but the threat of Marjane’s fable never becomes musty, every residence point makes an impact. The dismal collect and fascinating rendition of Examine of the Tiger add a fabulous layer to the whole experience.

This film is a breath of unique air in this cynical age of high plan mega tent-pole films. For Iranians, it’s a bittersweet shuffle home, and for Americans… a ample chance to eye that Iranians are not the monsters portrayed in the never ending game of politico.

A fair sad and white film for an era of oh so gray problems.

A MISSED FORTUNE - a weak re-working of a weak Curly short Healthy, Wealthy & Dumb. The Stooges live the high life on an inheritance.

LISTEN JUDGE - One of my favorites from this period. Three electricians are hired to find a short in the Judge’s house.

CORNY CASANOVAS - The Stooges are all engaged to the same gold-digging girl. Told mostly as three seperate stories.

HE COOKED HIS GOOSE - One of their first off-the-mark solo offerings. Larry is a petshop dealer who’s seeing Moe’s wife while at the same time trying to steal Shemp’s fiancée.

GENTS IN A JAM - Shemp’s rich Uncle Phineas comes to visit the Stooges who are broke and about to evicted. It is a little painful to see Emil Sitka get kicked in the face multiple times. It feels like Jules White duirected it, but he didn’t.

THREE DARK HORSES - The Stooges get into the political ring as crooked Kenneth MacDonald (later a judge on Perry Mason) hires them to cast the winning votes.

CUCKOO ON A CHOOCHOO - One of their wierdest shorts. Only Larry & Shemp are teamed, living in a stolen train car. Moe is the railroad detective hired to find the train car. Shemp spends most of his time dancing with an imaginary girl canary. Larry does his best Marlon Brando impression.

1953

UP IN DAISEY’S PENTHOUSE - A re-working of the Curly short “Three Dumb Clucks”. Shemp impersonates his dad who is about to marry a golddigger planning to bump him off.

BOOTY AND THE BEAST - A partial re-issue of “Hold That Lion” which includes CURLY’s cameo as a sleeping train passenger.

LOOSE LOOT - This includes the second half of HOLD THAT LION with an all new first half.

TRICKY DICKS - A top notch detective spoof showing that the writers still have the stuff for a good comedy.

SPOOKS! *** 3-D *** - As pie salesmen, the Stooges are captured by a mad scientist and his gorilla. Needless to say, the pies come flying directly at us, the audience.

PARDON MY BACKFIRE *** 3-D *** - This is pure wire-up-the-nose Stooge slapstick. When Moe aims the grease gun at the us, the audience, we get it in the face (well almost).

RIR, SEW & STITCH - (re-issue of “Sing A Song Of Six Pants” from vol.5)

BUBBLE TROUBLE - (re-issue of “All Gummed Up” from vol.5)

GOOF ON THE ROOF - O.K., maybe I have more than one favorite in this set, this is the ultimate slatstick as the Stooges try to hook up a television antenna wire to their friend’s TV set.

1954

INCOME TAX SAPPY - Yes, it is that time of year again. Again, the Stooges work seperately.

MUSTY MUSKETEERS - (re-issue of “Fiddler’s Three” from vol.5)

PALS AND GALS - (re-issue of “Out West” from vol.5)

KNUTZY KNIGHTS - (re-issue of “Squareheads Of The Round Table” from vol.5)

SHOT IN THE FRONTIER - One of the last good Stooges shorts made. The three greatest gunslingers come to town and have a shoot out with the outlaws. The most memorable gags are the lymricks read out on the tombstones.

SCOTCHED IN SCOTLAND - (re-issue of “Hot Scots” from vol.5)

There is enough new material here to make this set worth getting. Add to that the inclusion of the 3-D shorts, and you have a “MUST-HAVE” set here. As a devoted Stooge fan I will be getting all 9 DVD sets, but this will be the last 5-star set.

According to a press release from sony, both the 3-D and 2-D versions of Spooks and Pardon my Backfire will be included, along with viewing glasses! This set will also have several Shemp shorts that have never been on DVD. Goof on the roof, Gents in a Jam, Income Tax Sappy and Corny Cassanovas to name some. Sony has done a great job on all the previous sets, so the picture quality and sound should be great.

If you are expecting ruby slippers and a cackling green lady, you are in for an awakening of your beget. Growing up with singing munchkins, I realized, hey, I am a grownup. And SciFi seemed to realize it too with a sparkling departure from the 1939 MGM film to a colorful, futuristic, decadent, and sometimes apocalyptic telling. The reinventions of characters and fantastical sets soon transport you from the familiar to a situation you collect yourself hard to seize your eyes off of– from phosphorous-glowing trees, desolate paths, Metropolitan-like art deco palaces, and underworlds unlike anything and then again reminiscent of a determined alphabet city pre-Rudy.

The anecdote itself is not for the kiddies. Mine were told continuously to leave the room, go play, and rep something else to do. But the grown up fairy account is long overdue. The epic actually had twists, turns, and menacing meaning– considerable more substance and meaning than the trifles the network and cable gurus seem to thrust down our throats.

I honestly cannot wait until the DVD comes out to feast my peepers on the rich masterpiece SciFi laid out for the holidays. (A worthy better smorgasborg than the Cheeto-fare of Lifetime) .

Buy,Download, Or Stream Tin Man! Click Here

And for fair desserts– SciFi scored an wonderful coup with incredibly gifted actors perfectly tailored for each role– most notably Alan Cumming for Glitch, Neal McDonough as the titular Tin Man, and the much “dismal” Azkadelia played by Kathleen Robertson.

Evil no longer is a personality trait to honest carry a area, but in this series, actually has a dependable beginning, reason to exist, and a apt fraction in throughout the series up to the climatic waste. This series is like a force of nature that I found myself carried away in– somewhat like DG.

I was very impressed with this series. Not only is the yarn recent and original, but also the writing and acting are both so far above normal as to be nearly incredible. Most SciFi series are honorable, but far from perfect, but this one….well, all of the main actors are smart and even some of the more minor characters are well written and acted. The critters are well done and believable. As a welcome addition, Kathleen Robertson is intellectual. Such a delicate woman, yet she can play the nefarious parts so well. I intend to add this to my collection when it comes out. Yes, this production is that genuine. Kudos to SciFi!!!!!!

Yes, this movie has plenty of silly moments, but there is a very valid and sometimes rather touching fable that takes precedence over everything that happens. You can’t accumulate through the most serious of situations without the palliative of laughter now and again, and Life actually does disclose a serious myth. Eddie Murphy proves once again that he is a substantial actor, and Martin Lawrence was surprisingly worthy as the more serious of two men sentenced to life in prison for a kill they didn’t commit. One night in 1932, fate brought Rayford Gibson (Murphy), a smooth-talking hustler with ample dreams, and Claude Banks (Lawrence) a salubrious fellow about to commence a noble job, together in a Unique York nightclub. For entirely different reasons, both guys have to face the displeasure of the club owner’s wrath; and so it is that Gibson and Banks extinguish up going on a bootlegging speed to Mississippi. One unimaginative man later, and both men are sentenced to life in prison for execute. Since Banks blames Gibson for getting him into all this mess, there relationship varies in quality as the years go by, but gradually a proper friendship develops between them. They try to flee several times but demolish up spending basically their whole lives in prison. Along the diagram, we meet with several sub-plots spirited some of their fellow inmates, but the movie never strays far from the lives of Gibson and Banks. The passage of time is marked by clips of historical events, and some sterling makeup works makes both men peer outmoded and aged out as they approach into their senior years.

This is not a prison anecdote of hopelessness, however. While no pardon ever comes their diagram, justice has a scheme of willing out eventually, and the final ten minutes of the film are honest terrific. Since the legend does consume station in Mississippi in 1932 and beyond, speed plays a major piece in the film, but it does not interpret the movie by any means. There are a number of comic scenes, especially those provocative pie and cornbread, and Eddie Murphy will definitely earn you laugh - Martin Lawrence sort of plays the heavy here to Murphy’s periodic antics. Some familiar faces pop up in the movie: Rick James plays the Modern York club owner, Bernie Mac has a relatively minor role, and Heavy D plays a miniature but valuable fraction. Wyclef Jean contributes an unusual catch for the film. The whole cast is profitable, and a very honorable script keeps the film on tear and fascinating.

This isn’t Lope Crazy; there are plenty of laughs, but I wouldn’t call this a comedy - Life the movie is comical in the intention life itself can sometimes be - laughter can fetch us through the hard times, but it doesn’t camouflage the fact that the hard times are there. This movie really deserves more attention than it has received; with its serious underlying quality, it ranks among Eddie Murphy’s most impressive films.

I’ve seen “Life” twice thus far, and I must concede that it has to be one of the best films to ever cast Eddie Murphy. He and Martin Lawrence are objective as emotionally poignant as they are downright hysterical in this memorable comedy/drama of two Prohibition-era guys from Harlem NYC who inadvertently become framed for destroy in the Deep South while on a bootlegging rush for the local crime boss they each owe debts to succor home. They are soon enough sentenced to life imprisonment in a Mississippi chain gang where they portion a “Felix and Oscar”-esque relationship that spans 65 years through thick and thin times (including numerous sprint attempts) . However in the waste, they literally become friends for life as they near to terms with their imprisonment. The make-up done by 6-time Oscar winner Rick Baker to transform Murphy & Lawrence from young to outmoded over the course of so many years is the accurate showstopper of “Life”. I wouldn’t be the least surprised if Mr. Baker garners Oscar #7 arrive 2000; he and Murphy have been quite a dynamic duo since “Coming to America”. A certain must-see!

The premise of Were the World Mine is romantic comedy trope: character A yearns for the like and affection of unattainable character B, then though a series of hi-jinks, proper treasure wins in the kill. That is about where the comparison ends as everything else is turned on its ear in Tom Gustafson’s titanic shroud adaptation of his have short film Fairies.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Were the World Mine! Click Here

The film’s tagline, `If you could develop someone savor you, would you? ‘ Is honestly, unexpectedly answered, “Yeah. Obviously.”

The first twist to the romantic comedy trope is that the lead couple is two young men. In the film our put-upon hero Timothy (Tanner Cohen), is cast as Puck in his senior production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. During rehearsal, he happens on the recipe to recreate the flower, here called a pansy in a nice play on words, which Puck uses on Shakespeare’s lovers. Timothy/Puck uses the pansy first on his unrequited crush Jonathon (Nathaniel David Becker), then on his classmates, and then the town, allowing everyone to stare the world through his eyes. By the extinguish of the film, as in Shakespeare’s play, all is peace.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Were the World Mine! Click Here

Of course, Timothy is hardly the usual trodden-down gratified lead. This is not some Cinderella myth with the frightful, or even ‘Hollywood Ugly’ lead forlornly in adore with someone quite beyond him; Timothy is a exquisite boy himself. The object of his affection, Jonathon is not the typical, unattainable ideal man either. We are shown in subtle ways that he is unprejudiced as alive to in Timothy, as Timothy is in him. Oh, were things only a bit different, eh? Enter the pansy.

This is not an adaptation of Midsummer Night’s Dream, but it does have residence points tacked on from that play. Helen Fielding did the same thing tacking on Jane Austen’s space from Pride and Prejudice to the unusual Bridget Jones’s Diary. Timothy at various points may is Puck, Oberon, Bottom and Helena. Perhaps that is the perfect descriptive combination for a young blissful man, piece fairy, imp, fool, and unrequited lover.

The musical fantasy sequences are not really fantasy, they are a fraction of the plot; magic spells that movie the tale along.

The music and lyrics are inspired. Shakespeare interpolated and position to music, may hardly be revolutionary, but it is tranquil quite fun and infectious. I get myself listening to the soundtrack repeatedly. Tanner Cohen is fantastic and has a little sibilant ‘S’ that is quite endearing.

Tom Gustafson is definitely a director and writer to discover, he spins a fun, titillating anecdote with edifying moments of poignancy. Some of the imagery in the film is iconic and spirited. It is hardy without flaws, but the the music and the performances buoy you along over those flaws. Cohen and Becker are especially capable. I would not change a frame.

As a straight, married 25 year old-fashioned female, I reveal this is not the typical movie for me. I stumbled upon the music on Napster and, as an author of fantasy books, was intrigued by the conceal (a boy wearing an original fairy costume) . After listening to the soundtrack, I fell in appreciate with it completely. The music is absolutely fabulous, Tanner Cohen’s direct is a dream to listen to, and each song plays an essential role in the overall movie. I even tell the songs to my 3 year extinct daughter (who loves the song “were the world mine”, minus the “poor word” at the beginning, lol) . Because it left the theater in my station the day I found out about the movie so I missed it, I actually drove all the diagram to Original York City from Kentucky impartial to view this movie with a friend. It was well worth the drive. Even though it’s a very simple premise, each moment is fitting and toothsome. The only two negatives to me were that the tagline “If you could manufacture someone care for you, would you? ” seemed like a “duh, no!” to me (because then it’s not Sincere savor), but to Timothy it was a yes. I disagreed with that and did not truly savor the romance between the two boys until it proved right later on. The other disappointment was by my friend, who at the last scene freaked out on me whispering “You mean, Timothy doesn’t exclaim again???? ” We impartial wanted to hear his screech more, he’s so fabulous!

I am definitely going to rob the DVD (despite the raised eyebrows I will most certainly accumulate from people here!) because the movie was spruce, fun, tickled and very sweet. I’m black it left the NY theater, because I might have taken the 13 hour lope again honest to observe it!

This is the second volume of MGM Dream Factory musicals. Only “That’s Dancing” and “Royal Wedding” are on DVD already, and those are generally awful public domain copies. The other five features have only been on VHS up to now. I’d keep all of these movies except “Belle of Current York” at between four and five stars if you are a fan of the MGM musicals of the 40’s and 50’s. “Belle of Unusual York” I’d achieve at between three and four stars mainly because the campiness of the entire production gets in the intention most of the time. Considering you inquire some gimmicks in MGM musicals of this era, that is saying a lot. The extra features, which I got from a press release from Warner Home Video, do study splendid. This package probably rates 4.5 stars taken as a whole, and I round it up to five. The following are brief descriptions of the films and the special features for each one.

The Pirate (1948) Starring Gene Kelly and Judy Garland. Features music by Cole Porter. A swashbuckling sage is largely honest a framework for the music and dancing, which is superior. Judy Garland plays a girl obsessed with a legendary pirate. Gene Kelly pretends to be that pirate in order to procure the girl. This film actually lost money for MGM in its initial release. Today it is spellbinding because it showcases the talents of Gene Kelly and Judy Garland so well.

That’s Dancing! (1985) is a documentary along the same lines as “That’s Entertainment” narrated by Gene Kelly along with co-hosts Ray Bolger, Sammy Davis Jr., Mikhail Baryshnikov and Liza Minnelli. The clips of dancing in motion pictures from the 30’s to the 80’s are very sterling, but the presentation was lacking somewhat. The narration seems deadpan, and when the narration cuts into the trusty dancing numbers it is distracting more than informative.

Another glorious product from Warners, this time including material considered righteous examples of MGM at its peak and some not so ample. Although Words and Music may not be a factual representation of Rodgers and Hart’s life, the musical numbers are top notch and the movie is interesting. The Pirate, with its stigma for being a failure upon initial release, is a pleasure to eye and to hear as well. The stars are favorable, although Judy Garland looks a bit nervous in several scenes. Royal Wedding is very fascinating and while not a expansive film is an example of movie-making that makes you feel trustworthy. The Belle of Original York is difficult to peer. It has to be the worst of the Fred Astaire films, and the problems include the epic, the musical numbers, and, unfortunately, his co-star. I had never seen That’s Dancing and was surprised at how few clips from musical films were customary and how dated the movie itself was. The That’s Entertainment films possess up distinguished better and seem to be more professionaly produced. All said, the packaging and the extras are nice, as with most of the astounding products from Warners. Actually it’s difficult to be negative about the level of craftsmanship from MGM and its stars help in the day, but some musicals are unprejudiced better than others.

Finally comes the showdown between Goku and Piccolo Jr. This is a battle to unsuitable with the best of them in DBZ, and the reason why they shut down the Tournament for a number of years until Hercule won it in DBZ. As we all know, Goku wins, leaving Piccolo to wait for another chance to defeat Goku…someday.

After the tournament, Goku fulfills his promise to Chi Chi and tries some of that “marriage” with her. There’s only one dilemma. Chi Chi left her bride’s gown in her father’s palace and the palace is on fire! Can Goku accumulate the gown out of there and not earn burned to death? You’ve got to observe the DVD!

I’m very jubilant I purchased this box plot, I consider it was more than worth it. It includes so many episodes and I personally believe the Piccolo/Goku fight to be one of the greatest of all anime/manga, so it’s frosty to be able to seek it at any time. I also indulge in this station for the Japanese version, which is awesome to me.

I highly recommend it for dragonball fans (like myself) :), it’s a huge dwelling to add to your dvd collection.

This film is almost 50 years aged, yet it unexcited packs a wallop for viewers. I called the title “melancholy”, because it implies that this is an action movie–of course, it is distinguished more. There are certainly battle scenes, and they are grim and realistic–no John Wayne heroics here. At the same time, the opening credits display that “Attack” is based on a play–so great of the film is dedicated to character development by some worthy actors.

The Nazis are the enemy, but these American GIs have another enemy within their midst–a cowardly, villainous commanding officer who has a well-deserved reputation for letting his men down. Some superb soldiers lose their lives because of this officer’s incompetence and indecision. In this role, Eddie Albert gives a improbable, unforgettable performance. Later in his career, “Green Acres” may have given him more financial security, but it was obviously a slay of a mammoth talent.

As the daring GI who must characterize to a drunken coward, Jack Palance is rivetting in one of his best performances–his confrontation scenes with Eddie Albert really sizzle with animosity. Messrs. Palance and Albert are well supported by mammoth character actors like Robert Strauss, Richard Jaeckel and the recently-departed Buddy Ebsen. Eddie Albert’s commanding officer is played by Lee Marvin–and with Lee Marvin, “commanding” is the word! Unfortunately, the Marvin character is fair as foul, and self-serving in his hold arrangement as the man he supervises.

As I said earlier, this is a war movie that makes you think–it is not intended to merely entertain. I would not call it anti-war–there is no quiz that the Nazis here, mostly SS, are dismal. To emphasize the point, we learn that Robert Strauss’ character is Jewish, and how he would be treated if captured by the SS. Most of the American soldiers are depicted as mettlesome, just, dedicated men, laying their lives on the line every day. Nevertheless–as “Attack” shows us– sometimes people are save in positions of authority for reasons that have nothing to do with merit–whether it is the military, in business, government or other fields of endeavour. In this case, of course, it is a jam that costs lives. It is a considerable message.

The DVD is nice–clear B & W picture–the sound is mono–the mark reasonable.

Bottom line–a splendid, thinking person’s World War II drama, that deserves a higher profile.

A sunless footnote dated 10 November 2006. Mr. Jack Palance unprejudiced passed away–an Oscar-winner and one of the most formidable presences to ever grace the silver cover.

Long on several “lost film” lists, “Attack” is at last available on video. There are several reasons to stare this film. It is a forerunner of so many grim, realistic movies that treat the subject with intelligence (”Men In War”, “Pork Crop Hill”, “Platoon”, “The Thin Red Line”) . It is brilliantly directed (many scenes are almost unbearable in their naked dramatic truth) . And it contains several performances that interrogate attention.

The conviction of Eddie Albert’s playing of the cowardly Lieutenant may advance as a surprise to those unaware of his talents. Lee Marvin also delivers a solid characterization, as do most of the other supporting players. But the main feature of this film is the incredible portrayal of Lt. Costa by Jack Palance. The kind of immersion in a role that Palance exhibits here is rare. It is the kind of performance that seems more like “being” than acting. A number of close-ups of Palance’s face content a frisson of emotional intensity and truth that are rare and fantastic in the cinema of any period. In fact, Palance helps to note, in this narrate, why “war films” should exist as a genre. The condition of war, of combat in particular, serves to foreground, polarize and intensify emotions and accurate convictions. It can call into demand the very nature of humanity. Fair what is the imprint of a human life? What do we as humans mean to one another? When do concepts like ‘bravery’ and ‘cowardice’ stop to have meaning?

“Attack” is a runt film, gigantic in its impact.

This movie has a astounding message about friendship and how precious every life is, be it human or animal. The film has everything going for it; gigantic animation, unbelievable background music, and a myth that combines humor and high drama. The yarn is about how an Australian boy named Cody comes to the attend of a magnificent eagle, that was illegally trapped by a poacher named McLeach (George C. Scott), only to accept himself later kidnapped by McLeach. Woodland creatures send for wait on via an interpret telegraph to a couple of UN delegate mice, named Miss Bianca (Eva Gabor) and Bernard (Bob Newhart) in NYC. Bianca and Bernard enlist the services of a hilarious albatross named Wilbur (John Candy) and position off across the atlantic to…well, rescue Cody. The legend even has a small romance between Miss Bianca and Bernard thrown in for splendid measure. The highlight of the film for me actually comes early. After Cody releases the eagle from the trap, he nearly falls to his death only to be swooped up and taken for the lumber of his life by the grateful eagle. Absorb me, everytime I belief this sequence I rep teary eyed. A heavenly film, one of Disney’s best!

You hear a lot about this film being Disney’s first sequal, but don’t let that freak you out if you’ve never seen the novel Rescuers film. There’s really no need to have seen The Rescuers to enjoy The Rescuers Down Under. The only thing these films allotment are the two main characters (Binard and Bianca) and the state point of saving a child in jeopardy. Where the unique was a touchy-feely narrative of abandonment, this film tackles the very different allege of wildlife preservation. I gain this to be a far better film than The Rescuers (although I loved it as a child and aloof believe a special space for it in my heart), and a welcome change of hasten effect the usual Disney fare.

This was the first film to consume Disney’s original CAPS system of filming animation and the results are truly pleasing. Gleaming colorful colors, blending and shading, though-provoking crisp lines, and subtle spend of computer animation are the hallmarks of the “recent” Disney and it all began with this film. The opening sequence is a sizable example of what the system can do and remains one of the most thrilling openings to any Disney film. More breathtaking scenes, like the flights with Marahute, futher attest to the technological achievement of the film.

Story wise this film gives us Disney’s most realistic depiction of childhood to date (B.A. before Andy from Toy Epic, but he’s really a PIXAR creation anyway), in the protagonist Cody. He’s strong willed, shining, has a sense of adventure and never seems overly cute. He’s unbiased a boy who wants to put his friend, the last golden eagle Marahute, from the snide poacher. Some very fun and amusing characters are introduced (notably Frank the lizzard) to offset one of the meanist villans ever, Percival McLeach. He’s drawn in a realistic plan that exaggerates his features honest enough to give him a very menacing gaze. Maintain me, when he yells at Cody you will recoil in alarm!

With all this high praise you might be wondering why this isn’t a more widely known film. Well it had the dejected distinction of following The Miniature Mermaid, which sent the studio in the direction of Broadway-styled musicals. I haven’t mentioned music for the film because there isn’t any. Althought the accumulate is astonishing (and a hotly sought after collectors item), there isn’t one song in the entire film. Simply attach, it got lost under all the hoopla about Disney’s unique style. People were looking for more of the same from Disney and soon they would glean it.

Rating the DVD itself, I’d give it a 5 for narrate and sound, but only a 3 for bonus material. Disney has released a few DVD’s with outstanding bonus’, however this isn’t one of them. All you find is a trivia game that will be really easy to score after you leer the film and a mode that tells you the sage in words or has a speak over read it to you. But don’t let the meager bonus material discontinuance you from getting this DVD. Now that time has passed and most of us are looking for something unique from Disney, win a watch at this overlooked gem. You’ll be overwhelmed by it’s adventure, granduer, beauty and most importantly, fun.
